okay okay, I also have had am fighting perfection tendencies. Something Schwartz wrote that has helped me is have some trusted sources if your a Maximizer. Consumer Reports, Amazon ratings, when I shop for something now I can make a decision a lot more quickly and decisively than I used to. I TRUST these sources and they take a lot of the guess work out of things giving me MORE time and LESS stress. Hope this helps someone else

I have struggled
with being a “maximizer” as well; and I can really relate to your
10-year delay in starting this blog. Interestingly, I always thought of
Torres as a maximizer who was not affected by the pitfalls of being a
perfectionist. Its good to know that you are human as well;)

Hi, Mike!

“…all the way down to how I’d organize the site’s content on my hard drive.” Boy, can I relate! I’m a lifelong perfectionist (well, a Maximizer, according to Schwartz’s definition), and I recently started blogging about trying to overcome the tendency. A friend forwarded a link to this post of yours.

You make some very good points here…in particular, I love the Voltaire quote in #5, which I try to remind myself of often these days.

Great stuff, Mike–your older posts, too, based on a brief skim of them. I like the clarity of your thinking and writing. I’ve subscribed to your feed and I look forward to more good reading!
